Biography

Oscar Veliz is an assistant teaching professor at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. He earned his bachelor’s and PhD degrees in computer science from the University of Texas at El Paso. He is also on the teaching faculty hiring committee and the network teaching faculty hiring subcommittee on diversity and inclusion.  

Prior to joining Northeastern, Veliz was a postdoctoral teaching fellow at Carnegie Mellon University, a lecturer at the University of Texas at El Paso, and a research assistant at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Veliz received the Google CAHSI Dissertation Award. He currently runs a YouTube channel with over 8 thousand subscribers where he creates and posts lessons on various computer science topics. Outside of the work, he volunteers to teach computer science with the Microsoft Philanthropies Technology Education and Literacy in Schools TEALS program.
