Biography
Prashant Mittal is a professor of the practice and director of professional programs in the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University, based at the Roux Institute in Portland, Maine. He is also a part-time lecturer in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences.
Mittal has built his career at the nexus of data science and business, serving as both an educator and an analytics consultant. This has allowed him to thrive across the retail, insurance, and fitness industries, as well as healthcare, where he analyzed claims data, electronic records, and national public health surveillance data within large hospital systems. Most recently, Mittal served as data science lead for Fortune 500 company Lincoln Financial Group, where he managed a team of data scientists and leveraged both natural language processing and statistical modeling to help manage disability claims.
Apart from his industry work, Mittal has taught numerous courses in machine learning, statistics, programming, health analytics, bioinformatics, and data applications over more than two decades in the classroom. In particular, he was the lead professor for the University of New Hampshire’s graduate program in analytics and data science. Mittal is also a prolific writer, having co-authored journal articles and reports on public health, education, and business research.
