For the sixth consecutive year, the Northeastern network put its collective strength into Giving Day, with more than 10,000 donors contributing a record $3.2 million to Northeastern colleges, student organizations, and sports teams.
Khoury College’s 271 donors, representing a 15 percent increase over 2022, donated about $82,000, an 82 percent spike. The college’s student groups pulled in more than $4,000, with software consultants Sandbox, nonprofit collaborators Code 4 Community, and the Computer Science Mentoring Organization leading the pack. Additionally, the college met four of its five challenges, wherein an additional donation was released to a fund if a given number of donors gave to that fund:
- Doreen Hodgkin Student Emergency Fund: 75-donor target; $10,000 released by Roxanne Donovan and Tom Scarangello, parents of a Khoury alumnus (Donovan and Scarangello made an identical matching donation last year when the Hodgkin fund launched.)
- Khoury Dean’s Fund Challenge — Part 1: 15-donor target; $500 released by Khoury faculty and staff
- Align Challenge: 20-donor target; $5,000 released from an anonymous donor
- Jelly Incubation Fund Challenge: 10-donor target; $1,000 released from alumnus Chris Jelly
“Thank you for your outstanding generosity,” Dean Elizabeth Mynatt wrote. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their generous contributions and behind-the-scenes work in making the day a huge success.”
As part of the day’s activities, five student groups joined Mynatt in Northeastern’s Xhibition Kitchen: the aforementioned Sandbox plus project-based programmers Oasis, cybersecurity enthusiasts null NEU, CS education aficionados FirstByte, and Grad Women Coders.
“Rumors of a Khoury College cookbook are spreading quickly,” Mynatt joked.
