110 Students/27 Hours

West Village H was the hub for innovation and collaboration during the weekend of October 1-2 as over 110 NU undergraduate students participated in the Fall Hackathon. The event was hosted by the College of Computer and Information Science and organized by the student Board of Husky Hacks.

25 Projects/Three Awards (and more!)

A record-setting 25 projects from student teams were presented to a panel of judges who chose the following winners:

• Most Technically Challenging awarded to “AsciiRendr”/David Alelyunas and Derick Anderson
• Best First-Time Hack awarded to “Serein”/Ted Myers and Perri Lomberg
• Best Design awarded to “Gotta Go Real Fast”/Zach Bauer, Dominic Yamarone, and Seth Penna

Honorable Mentions:

• “WOFS” (Write Only File System)/Matthew Berry and David Dworken
• “Aviato”/ Amal Nazeem, Sahith Nallapareddy, Raghavprasanna Rajagopalan, and Nathan Goodman
• “PawStep Engine”/Trey Del Bonis, Bradley Fargo, and Mehrdad Hashemolhosseini

Five Sponsors

Representatives from Salsify, Liberty Mutual and Charles River Development were impressed by the great camaraderie and energy of the student work. Serving as tech experts and judges allowed these industry partners to connect to the skills and talents of NU students – in action! As an in-kind sponsor, Sensational Foods provided the buzz for creative meals and snacks.

Student Board member Allison Murphy of IDEA, the University’s venture accelerator, was on hand as the student sponsor and face of “next steps” with regard to hackathon projects. IDEA provides support and in-kind resources in developing a business or product from concept to launch.
