Biography

Auroop R. Ganguly is a distinguished professor in the College of Engineering — and the director of AI for climate and sustainability in the Institute for Experiential AI — at Northeastern University, based in Boston. He holds affiliate appointments in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Ganguly works in artificial intelligence and complexity sciences — specifically machine learning, nonlinear dynamics, extreme value theory, and network science — for challenges pertaining to the sciences of water, weather, and earth systems, as well as resilience engineering of infrastructures, transportation, water, and urban systems. He has developed process-knowledge-integrated AI methods across a wide range of domains.

Ganguly has nearly 30 years of full-time experience in the US spanning the private industry, government labs, and academia, including Oracle Corporation, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Northeastern University. He has launched multiple startups, one of which was sold to a Fortune 500 company that owns the New York Stock Exchange. He is a joint chief scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a distinguished member of the Association for Computing Machinery.
