Biography
Muhammad Noor E Alam is an associate professor in the College of Engineering at Northeastern University, based in Boston. He is a core AI faculty member in the Institute for Experiential AI, director of the Decision Analytics Lab, and holds affiliated positions in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, the D’Amore McKim School of Business, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Research, and the Global Resilience Institute.
Alam’s data science research aims to develop decision analytics frameworks to solve critical problems in health care, energy, and humanitarian logistics using innovative computational approaches and interdisciplinary methods, such as large-scale optimization, causal inference, and AI. His goal is to ensure that high-stakes societal problems receive interpretable, fair, robust, and reliable decisions.
Prior to joining Northeastern, Alam was a postdoctoral research fellow at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He was awarded a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2021 and serves as an associate editor of both the INFORMS Journal on Computing and the INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics.
