Biography
Shanu Sushmita is an assistant teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Seattle.
As a researcher, Sushmita focuses on machine learning techniques and the application side of information retrieval. In 2012, her doctoral work was recognized as among the most interesting of the year by the ACM SIGIR newsletter. As her career has progressed, Sushmita has grown interested in finding ways to use these technologies to make a better world. Now at Khoury College, Sushmita is further exploring AI ethics and responsible AI through her leadership of the Generative AI Research Lab.
Sushmita joined Khoury College because of the opportunities the college offered to expand and focus on research opportunities. She also remains affiliated with the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington as assistant professor.
When not working, Sushmita is an avid traveler.
